Discernment Counseling

Discernment Counseling

When one partner's heart is checked-out, ready to pack up the marriage and call it quits, while the other partner's heart is still all-in on making it work, it's no surprise that you're both feeling like you're trapped in a frustrating stalemate.

Discernment Counseling is not couples' therapy or collaborative divorce work. Instead, it is a safe, structured environment that involves one to five sessions. During these sessions, both partners meet together and individually to consider their options. Here are the possible outcomes:

  • Path One: Stay in an indecisive place, not working on the relationship or moving towards divorce.

  • Path Two: Move towards divorce.

  • Path Three:Take six months to repair the relationship, with divorce off the table during that time.

No matter which path the couple chooses, they will feel confident in their decision after the Discernment Counseling process. Both partners will identify their contributions to the relationship and what they need to do to move forward.

It's not uncommon to feel apprehensive about working on the relationship when emotions are high. However, Discernment Counseling offers a supportive and structured environment to help couples break the standstill and make a decision about their future.
